Emily & Tres were so happy to be getting married and be surrounded by all their friends & family. With the ceremony & reception inside the intimate gardens of Casa Hyder, & a parade through downtown to start the festivities off, I knew this was going to be a wedding to remember. My sister & I started the 60km, 4 day hike from Mollepata to Machu Pichu full of  hopeful optimism and something  else.  After a 2 day training program of taking the stairs at the airport, we were ready to head off through the Salkantay Pass up to 4,100m, (13,450 ft)  to the lost Incan city of Machu Pichu.  But no worries, we had our fearless & trusty guide Herbert to lead us. After reaching the top and hearing a 5 minute avalanche above us, we knew we were in trouble.  NO time to turn back though,  had to put on our gloves and keep going. Beautiful sunny weather welcomed us to Machu Pichu where we spent the whole afternoon, feeling the power and admiring the views form one of the most amazing cities on earth.  And to think that it was all built with out the use of mortar or cement. Just perfectly carved rocks, some with up to 32 angles on them!

Made it to Nasca just in time to see stage 12 of the Dakar roll into town!  After hitchhiking out to the finish line, I spent all day photographing and getting dusty as the bikes, trucks & buses came rolling through.  Just as I was looking for a ride to go back to the hotel, I spotted a few other photographers in the back of a pick-up truck & asked them for a ride. After jumping in, they told me they were form La Republica, one of Peru’s major daily newspapers.  They  offered to try and get me into Dakar’s Base camp, where all the mechanics were working for the night, and all the drivers resting up for the 5 am start. I got in, and this is what I saw.

I had the opportunity to photograph this beautiful couple’s wedding last month in San Miguel.
